Minding Our Margin: Making Room for God

This year, our theme for Advent is Minding our Margin. Margin is the space between what we are carrying and our capacity. Margin is the place in between all that we do, and all that we are capable of doing. It is the room for possibility. The space where our potential lives. The margin is where our creativity is born, where our The in between place where we can rest and find God.

The enemy of our margin is overload. Too much is too much. When we carry too much, we lose the capacity to be present because we are pre-occupied with….something else. Most of us know all too well about overload. And as we prepare for the coming of the living God, overload has got to go.

And so this season, I invite you to spend the next 23 days with me, minding your own margin.

Today's theme is Trusting Our Priorities. Make a list of the things in your life that you trust.
And I invite you to meditate on your most trusted priorities as you read the psalm appointed for today:

Psalm 146

1 Hallelujah.
Praise the LORD, O my soul.
2 I will praise the LORD while I live; I will sing praises unto my God while I have my being.
3 Put not your trust in princes, nor in the children of humanity, in whom there is no help.
4 Whose breath goes forth, who returns to his dust; in that very day his thoughts perish.
5 Happy is the one whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the LORD his God,
ו  עֹשֶׂה, שָׁמַיִם וָאָרֶץ--    אֶת-הַיָּם וְאֶת-כָּל-אֲשֶׁר-בָּם;
6 Who made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is;
who keeps truth for ever;
ז  עֹשֶׂה מִשְׁפָּט, לָעֲשׁוּקִים--נֹתֵן לֶחֶם, לָרְעֵבִים;    יְהוָה, מַתִּיר אֲסוּרִים.7 Who executes justice for the oppressed; who gives bread to the hungry. The LORD frees the prisoners;
ח  יְהוָה, פֹּקֵחַ עִוְרִים--יְהוָה, זֹקֵף כְּפוּפִים;    יְהוָה, אֹהֵב צַדִּיקִים.8 The LORD opens the eyes of the blind; the LORD raises up the ones who are bowed down; the LORD loves those who are kind;
9 The LORD preserves the strangers; upholds the orphan and the widow; but the way of the wicked is made crooked.
10 The LORD will reign for ever, thy God, O Zion, unto all generations.
Hallelujah.
