Honoring God's Temple

Today's spiritual practice is taken from psalm 5.

"I will bow down towards your holy temple in awe of You, O God."

What if we took the word "temple" to mean our own beings, God's precious creations. What might it mean to bow down to the temple that is our own life, given by God, holy and sacred in its creation.
If we thought of our own bodies and beings as temples created by God, for God, would we live….differently? Would we spend our time differently? Would we nourish and tend our physical beings differently? Do our lives honor the gift that is our own holy incarnation?

And so this day I invite you to join me in spending some time, some very intentional time, to set aside for God, bowing down to our Wondrous Creator, and to embrace in awe the creation that has been placed in our own fragile hands. I invite us all to live this one day as though we were God's holy temples. To honor God's creative love by minding what we eat and drink, by minding how we spend our time, by minding how we nourish our spirits, by minding the space that can offer rest and refreshment for the work that we were born to do.

Today let us mind everything that we spend, everything that we consume, and everything that we can offer to God on the altar of our own glorious creation. Today let us make some margin for God.

Psalm 5

1 For the Leader; upon the Nehiloth. A Psalm of David.
2 Give ear to my words, O LORD, consider my meditation.
3 Listen to the voice of my cry, my King, and my God; for to You I pray.
4 O LORD, in the morning  hear my voice; in the morning will I order my prayer to You, and will look forward.
5 For You art not a God that delights in wickedness; evil will not travel with You.
6 The boasters shall not stand in Your sight; You hate all workers of iniquity.
7 You destroy those who speak lies; the LORD abhors the bloodthirsty and the deceitful.
8 But as for me, in the abundance of Your lovingkindness will I come into Your house; I will bow down toward Your holy temple in awe of You.
9 O LORD, lead me in Your righteousness because of those who lie in wait for me; make Your way straight before my face.
10 For there is no sincerity in their mouths; their inward parts are a yawning gulf, their throats are open graves; they make smooth talk with their tongues.
11 Hold them guilty, O God, let them fall by their own counsels;
cast them down in the multitude of their transgressions; for they have rebelled against You.
יב  וְיִשְׂמְחוּ כָל-חוֹסֵי בָךְ, לְעוֹלָם יְרַנֵּנוּ--    וְתָסֵךְ עָלֵימוֹ;
12 So will all who take refuge in You rejoice, they shall forever shout for joy, and You shalt shelter them;
let them also, the ones that love Your name, exult in You.
13 For You bless the righteous; O LORD, You encompass them with favour like a shield.
